Certification & Regulation Information

The Association of Science & Engineering Technology Professionals of Alberta

As a self-regulating professionalassociation, ASET ensures public safety with a responsibility to guarantee thequalifications of those holding ASET titles and protect against title misuse,and the ability to exercise disciplinary and legal action to ensure competenceof ASET members.

An ASET designation shows a member has met strict national criteria forcertification in their field. Under the Engineeringand Geosciences Professions Act, ASET members are also accountablefor public safety under the law.

Self Regulating Professions

Althoughthe provincial government remains ultimately responsible for public safety andwell-being, it entrusts this responsibility to professional self-regulatoryassociations such as ASET. ASET’s ongoing commitment to protecting thepublic interest is evident in our activities, which include:

  • providing certification to qualified     Members
  • administering a complaint and discipline     process
  • promoting professional development

NOTE: You do not have to register if you do not call yourself a CertifiedEngineering Technologist.
