Certification & Regulation Information

TheAlberta College of Pharmacy (ACP) is responsiblefor quality pharmacy practice in Alberta.
They develop and enforce pharmacy practice standards and guidelines:

-         ensurethat only qualified pharmacists and pharmacy technicians are licensed, allpharmacists and pharmacy technicians maintain their knowledge and skills at thehighest level possible, and all pharmacies provide a practice environment thatsupports quality practice and patient safety;

-         managethe complaints resolution process related to pharmacists, pharmacy technicians,and pharmacies;

-         participatein local, provincial, and national forums when health policy is debated; and

-         promotepatient-centred, collaborative health care that best uses the skills andknowledge of all health care professionals.

Theiractivities are governed by the Health Professions Act (HPA). This Act outlinesthe organizational structure of the college—namely Council and itscommittees—and dictates responsibilities related to licensure, practice review,and complaint resolution. Learn more about relatedlegislation.
